THE SALOON, ROYAL PAVILION

Cast Fragment No.2
1:1 Door handle, 1:100 Floor Plate
With the ambiguous fragments, their success was within their ability to hold as much or a little detail as the reader desired. But the solidifying of the negotiable scale gives a tangeable constant for the design process. This model, acting an internal fragment at 1:10 constrains the idea of abstraction yet without the aesthetic compromise.
The ‘wall’ acts as a reference point for the makers, with the four instruments crafted in the building being cast into the form. Being cast in plaster at 1:1, the form would be worn, leaving marks of the maker, preserving detail of the craft for future generations and allowing the building to be re-defined over time.
